AfTLD Participate in African IGF Meetings

AfTLD participated in the African
Internet Governance Fourm "IFG" Preparatory meetings
"The Road to Athens" held in Cairo from 18-22th
September 2006.
The meeting discussed a number of issues and aspects
related to Internet governance, technical,
political, social and economic. The meeting
reaffirmed African position on IG, which is that the
Internet has evolved into a global facility
available to the public and its governance should
constitute a core issue of the Information Society
agenda. The international management of the Internet
should be multilateral, transparent and democratic,
with the full involvement of governments, the
private sector, civil society and international
organizations. It should ensure an equitable
distribution of resources, facilitate access for all
and ensure a stable and secure functioning of the
Internet, taking into account multilingualism.
The meeting discussed issues related to IG in 4
themes, Access, Diversity, Openness and Security.
Eng.Mohamed EL Bashir, AfTLD vice President for
Communication and Outreach and Mr.Vika Mpisane,
AfTLD Treasurer derived to the meeting presentations
about AfTLD, IDNs and DNSSec .
The meeting final communiqué have recognized AfTLD
as the Pan African Organization to work in promoting
the use of African ccTLDs and establishes a
mechanism for capacity building for African
countries Top Level Domains .
