Kenya Network Information Centre Celebrates 25 Years of Internet Connectivity in Kenya

25 years of the Internet in Kenya has come to pass, in the blink of an eye. A couple of decades ago, Kenya’s very nascent Internet had only a few thousand users via expensive dial-up modems and analogue phone lines. Today, we enjoy high world-class broadband Internet in Kenya that is accessed by over 30 million users. We have come a long way indeed!

KeNIC has been at the very epicenter of Kenya’s Internet revolution which has spawned a vibrant and diverse digital ecosystem. Since inception, we have been inspired to ensure that there is a .KE domain name for every name in Kenya. Over 100,000 .KE domain names are currently registered and this number continues to grow as we deliver them at globally competitive prices via our approved domain name registrars.

The rise of the fourth industrial revolution or 4IR via technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) will play a critical role in Kenya’s digital future. Indeed, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that the Internet can positively impact how we live, work, parent, school and worship during times of uncertainty.

Having a .KE domain name is one of the ways you can ensure you stay contextually relevant when every Kenyan is connected to the Internet. So, here’s to the next 25 years of Kenya’s Internet with .KE domain names that will keep you at the leading edge.
